# FDA Warns on Cesium Salts in Supplements

FDA says consumers should avoid using dietary supplements containing cesium chloride or any other cesium salt due to significant safety risks such as heart toxicity and potential death. The agency says in an online [notice](https://www.fda.gov/food/dietary-supplement-products-ingredients/public-health-alert-concerning-dietary-supplements-containing-cesium-salts?ref=fdaweb.com) that it also is conveying the warning to healthcare professionals.

The notice says that multiple clinical case reports and non-clinical studies show significant safety concerns related to using such products, including potentially fatal cardiac arrhythmias, hypokalemia, seizures, syncope, and death.

“While it appears that few dietary supplements containing cesium salts are currently on the market, consumers should be aware of the risks associated with them and should avoid purchasing and using such products,” the notice says.
