# FDA Warns on China-sourced API

FDA is alerting active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) repackagers and distributors, and finished drug manufacturers that [Sichuan Friendly Pharmaceutical Co. Limited](http://s2027422842.t.en25.com/e/er?utm%5Fcampaign=FDA%20alerts%20drug%20makers%20of%20a%20recall%20of%20porcine%20thyroid%20API%20from%20Sichuan%20Friendly%20Pharmaceutical%20Co&utm%5Fmedium=email&utm%5Fsource=Eloqua&s=2027422842&lid=4685&elqTrackId=135DB9E0B687B933E3AA684D8E41E53B&elq=6771f3800b534e0584b018723264e6cd&elqaid=4690&elqat=1) (China) has recalled certain lots of porcine thyroid API due to inconsistent quality of the API. FDA recommends that manufacturers and compounders not use this API received since 8/2015.

Risks associated with over or under treatment of hypothyroidism could result in permanent or life-threatening adverse health consequences, it says.
