FDA is [warning](https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/letters-health-care-providers/do-not-use-cardinal-health-monoject-syringes-syringe-pumps-and-pca-pumps?ref=fdaweb.com) healthcare professionals not to use Cardinal Health Monoject syringes with syringe pumps and patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pumps while the agency further evaluates their compatibility with the devices. Recently, Cardinal Health recalled the syringes because their dimensions differ from the previously branded syringes and they may be incompatible with syringe infusion pumps ([see story](https://www.fdaweb.com/cardinal-health-recalls-infusion-pump-syringes/)). The company says it received 15 reports of delayed therapy due to syringe infusion pumps not recognizing syringes, and 13 reports of inaccurate volume/rate dispensing, including some injuries.

Following the recall, FDA now says it has concerns that the information provided by Cardinal Health has “not sufficiently mitigated the risk of incompatibility when Cardinal Health Monoject syringes are used with other pumps, specifically PCA pumps. In addition, the FDA has concerns that the risk of incompatibility could apply to additional sizes of Cardinal Health Monoject syringes. The FDA is working with the manufacturer to address these questions.”
