FDA Webinar for Surgical Gowns Guidance

FDA has planned a 1/21 Webinar for industry to review a recently released guidance on “Premarket Notification Requirements Concerning Gowns Intended for Use in Health Care Settings.” The guidance describes regulatory requirements and the performance testing needed to support liquid barrier claims for such. It discusses performance standards established by the American National Standards Institute and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation that specify test methods and performance results necessary to verify and validate newly defined levels of barrier protection. Additionally, it reviews how a gown is intended for use as a Class 2 “surgical gown” subject to premarket notification based on factors, such as the terminology used, level of barrier protection claimed, and the device’s technological characteristics.
