# Few Cancer Accelerated Approval Drugs Confirm Value: Study

Researchers say that confirmatory trials for only 20% of cancer drug indications approved under the FDA accelerated approval pathway demonstrated improvements in overall patient survival. Writing in *JAMA Internal Medicine* the researchers [say](https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/article-abstract/2733561?ref=fdaweb.com) that reassessment of the requirements for confirmatory trials may be necessary to obtain more clinically meaningful information.

The researchers looked at 91 cancer drug indications for which accelerated approval was granted from 12/11/1992 through 5/31/2017.
