# Finalize Hearing Aid Rule Now: Senators

Some 11 senators, led by Sens. **Chuck Grassley** (R-IA) and **Elizabeth Warren** (D-MA), are calling on FDA to finalize its proposed rule on over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids without delay. In a 2/8 [letter](https://www.grassley.senate.gov/download/grassley-et-al-to-fda%5F-otc-hearing-aids-regulations?ref=fdaweb.com), the senators say the public comment period on the proposal closed 1/18 and they want FDA to finalize the rule without delay and in a manner that is consistent with congressional intent. The rule is a result of the Over-the-Counter Hearing Aid Act, which Grassley and Warren moved through Congress with bipartisan support in 2017.

The senators say FDA should exclude any unnecessary restrictions that hinder access to OTC devices or limit their effectiveness for Americans with mild or moderate hearing loss.
