Firms Seek EUA for Omicron Vaccine in Young Children

Pfizer and BioNTech have submitted an application seeking an emergency use authorization for their Omicron BA.4/BA.5-adapted bivalent Covid-19 vaccine as a third dose in the primary series for protecting children aged six months through four years of age. If authorized, eligible children would receive a primary series consisting of two doses of the original Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine followed by a third dose of the Omicron BA.4/BA.5-adapted bivalent vaccine. The Omicron bivalent vaccine is currently authorized as a booster dose for ages five years and older in the U.S.
