Foldax IDE Approved for New Heart Valve

FDA has approved a Foldax IDE to begin a clinical study of its Tria biopolymer mitral surgical heart valve. The device is made out of a new, proprietary biopolymer – LifePolymer – and is intended to resist calcification, withstand stresses and strains without failure, and restore patient quality of life without lifelong use of anticoagulants, the company says. Tria is also the first heart valve to be robotically manufactured, “reducing variability and enabling high precision, repeatability and quality, while substantially improving the economics of heart valve manufacturing,” the company says.
