# Former FDA Spokeswoman Lands as Chief of Staff Advisor

Almost two months ago, FDA commissioner **Stephen Hahn** removed his newly appointed chief spokeswoman **Emily** **Miller** in the wake of his [controversial remarks](https://www.fdaweb.com/hahn-has-mea-culpa-moment-on-plasma-therapy-data/) exaggerating the efficacy of convalescent plasma for Covid-19 at an 8/23 White House press conference. It is now being discovered that Miller never left the agency and instead landed in FDA chief of staff **Keagan Lenihan**’s office as a senior advisor, according to a [report](https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/10/trump-appointee-fired-from-fda-is-still-at-fda-promoting-unapproved-drugs/?ref=fdaweb.com) by science and technology Web publisher *Ars Technica*.

In August, Miller was installed at FDA by the White House and she immediately began drawing attention after the press conference ([see earlier story](https://www.fdaweb.com/who-is-helping-hahn-with-communication-efforts/)), exhibiting her limited understanding of science and health issues. She is a former reporter for right-wing cable network One America News and a huge supporter of president Trump. No reason was given for Miller’s removal at the time.

Recently, Miller has drawn new attention by re-tweeting president Trump and publicly [promoting an unapproved drug](https://twitter.com/emilymiller/status/1313972579854675969?ref=fdaweb.com) as being “like a cure” for Covid-19 on Twitter. Her tweets support unproven and potentially dangerous statements from Trump and may violate FDA regulations, the *Ars Technica* report said. The drug she promoted is currently being reviewed by FDA for emergency use, raising concerns about the agency’s impartiality. Asked by other media outlets about Miller and her conduct, an agency spokesperson said: “As a matter of policy, FDA doesn’t comment on personnel matters, nor do we comment on potential or open compliance matters.”
