Former Insys Sales VP Testifies on Illegal Kickbacks, etc.

Former Insys Therapeutics sales vice president Alec Burlakoff testified in Boston federal court last week on how he followed orders to recruit physician and pay illegal kickbacks to increase the sales of addictive Subsys, a fentanyl-based pain drug. It is the first federal trial involving executives of an opioid manufacturing company, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for Massachusetts. Expected to last about three months, the first five weeks have already included testimony about the company's conduct, according to an NBC News report. Prosecutors allege the company paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to doctors in exchange for prescribing Subsys. Three top prescribers have already been convicted of taking bribes from Insys.
