Former Walter Reed Employee Indicted on False Statements

The Justice Department says former Walter Reed National Military Medical Center prosthetics and orthotics department chief David Laufer has been indicted by a federal grand jury on five counts of making false statements. The indictment alleges that he failed to report financial benefits he received from an unnamed individual and company located in Germantown, MD, that provided prosthetics and orthotics materials to Walter Reed in exchange for government payments. The indictment says that Laufer falsely told federal agents he had never received money, gifts, or sporting event tickets from any vendor doing business with his department when in fact he had received such benefits including travel and sporting event tickets.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison for each of the five counts.
