# FTC Settles with Dietary Supplement Marketer

Health Research Laboratories and its owner, **Kramer Duhon**, have agreed to settle charges brought by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the state of Maine that they deceived consumers with promises that their marketed dietary supplements could treat everything from arthritis to memory loss. A [proposed federal court order ](https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/documents/cases/health%5Fresearch%5Flaboratories%5Ffiled%5Fproposed%5Fstipulated%5Ffinal%5Fjudgment%5Fand%5Forder.pdf?ref=fdaweb.com)bars the defendants from engaging in a wide range of business practices that allegedly have caused financial injury to consumers.

The firm marketed two health products, BioTherapex, a dietary supplement that is intended to address liver ailments, and NeuroPlus, a brain supplement, by making “false and unsupported claims,” the FTC says. “Brochures for BioTherapex even highlighted the results of a purported 1,200-person clinical study on the product that was never actually conducted,” it adds.

The order requires the defendants to have competent and reliable scientific evidence to support any other claims about the health benefits or efficacy for its products. It also imposes a judgment of $3.7 million.
