Germitec’s Chronos Gets De Novo Marketing Pass

FDA has granted a de novo marketing clearance for Germitec’s Chronos automated disinfection device for reducing the risk of cross-contamination. The one-button, chemical-free automated device uses UV-C technology to “penetrate the membrane of microorganisms, disrupting their DNA, RNA, and cellular proteins, thereby halting their replication and capacity to infect, hence dramatically reducing cross-contamination,” the company says. It says the device is indicated for use in a healthcare environment to achieve, in about 90 seconds, high-level disinfection of external, transvaginal, and transrectal ultrasound probes that do not contain lumens and indentations or channels that are deeper than their widths.
