Getinge Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps on Shortage Lis

FDA has added Getinge Maquet/Datascope Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) devices to its device shortage list. A letter from the manufacturer blames “ongoing supply chain issues” and raw material shortages that have affected its ability to build IABPs, intra-aortic balloon catheters and spare parts. It includes guidance for maintaining the Cardiosave Safety Disk and lithium-ion battery. FDA says it is working with Getinge to “identify potential strategies to help support availability of these critical devices,” and it estimates the shortage to continue into next year.
