Google Watch Cleared for ‘Pulse Loss’ Detection

FDA has cleared a Google 510(k) for its Loss of Pulse Detection feature and its use on the Pixel Watch 3. The feature can detect when someone wearing the watch has experienced a loss of pulse (the heart stops beating due to primary cardiac arrest, respiratory or circulatory failure, overdose or poisoning), according to a Google blog post. When this occurs, the watch automatically prompts a call to emergency services for potentially life-saving care if the wearer is unresponsive, it says. The loss of pulse feature joins other “peace of mind” safety and health features, including Car Crash Detection, Fall Detection, and Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications and the ECG app.
