# Groups Urge Hearing on CBD Regulation

Twenty-eight non-profit groups representing the CBD (cannabidiol) and hemp industries are calling on Congress to hold a hearing soon on FDA’s regulation, or lack thereof, of the growing market.

In a [1/24 letter ](https://hempsupporter.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Hemp-Industry-Hearing-Letter-EC-1.pdf?ref=fdaweb.com)to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the groups urge a hearing to get to the bottom of why FDA has taken “no meaningful steps toward the regulation of hemp” in the five years since it was legalized under the 2018 Farm Bill. “After first claiming for much of that period that it was investigating regulatory pathways that could be used, the agency most recently last year changed course and claimed that it would need further congressional authorization to proceed,” the groups say. “Meanwhile, thousands of unregulated products continue to be sold, causing great consumer confusion and advantaging bad actors vis-a-vis good faith manufacturers who want to play by the rules and offer healthy products.”
