# GSK Respiratory Syncytial Virus Vaccine ‘Highly Efficacious’

GlaxoSmithKline says its older adult respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine candidate showed a 94.1% reduction in severe RSV disease and overall vaccine efficacy of 82.6% in a Phase 3 pivotal trial. A company [statement](https://www.gsk.com/en-gb/media/press-releases/gsk-s-older-adult-respiratory-syncytial-virus-rsv-vaccine-candidate/?ref=fdaweb.com) says consistent high vaccine efficacy was observed against RSV-lower respiratory tract disease in severe disease (94.1%), adults ages 70-79 (93.8%), and adults with underlying comorbidities (94.6%).

“Consistent high vaccine efficacy was also observed across a range of pre-specified secondary endpoints, highlighting the impact the vaccine candidate could have on the populations most at risk of the severe outcomes of RSV,” the company says.

GSK says the vaccine was well tolerated with a favorable safety profile. There currently are no RSV vaccines approved anywhere in the world.
