Guidance on Animal-sourced Materials in Devices

Federal Register notice: FDA has made available a final guidance on “Medical Devices Containing Materials Derived from Animal Sources (Except for In Vitro Diagnostic Devices).” The document updates agency policy on using animal-derived material in medical device manufacturing. It says that animal-derived materials may carry a risk of transmitting infectious disease when improperly collected, stored, or manufactured. The guidance also describes the information manufacturers should document at the manufacturing facility and include in any premarket submissions. To view the notice, click here.
