Guide on Priority Zoonotic Animal Drugs

FDA has released a draft guidance entitled “Priority Zoonotic Animal Drug (PZAD) Designation and Review Process.” FDA says that a PZAD is defined as a “new animal drug, that alone or in combination with one or more other animal drugs, has the potential to prevent or treat a zoonotic disease in animals, including a vector-borne disease, that has the potential to cause serious adverse health consequences for, or serious or life-threatening diseases in, humans.” The document covers the eligibility criteria for PZAD designations, the process for designation requests, and the process for expedited development and review of PZADs.
