# Guide on Unique Device ID Compliance Date Deferrments

FDA has posted a [guidance](https://www.fda.gov/downloads/MedicalDevices/DeviceRegulationandGuidance/GuidanceDocuments/UCM592340.pdf?ref=fdaweb.com) on “Unique Device Identification (UDI): Policy Regarding Compliance Dates for Class I and Unclassified Devices and Certain Devices Requiring Direct Marking.” UDI system requirements are being phased in over seven years according to established compliance dates based primarily on device classification. The guidance outlines FDA’s intention to not enforce standard date formatting, labeling, and data submission requirements before 9/24/2020\. Previously, the compliance date was 9/24/2018\. Additionally, the agency does not intend to enforce direct mark requirements before 9/24/2022.
