Haemonetics Recalls 3 Lots of Leukotrap RC System

Haemonetics has recalled three lots of its Leukotrap RC System with RC2D Filter due to reports that white blood cell counts were higher than expected during collection. The device is a closed system for collecting one unit of whole blood and the pre-storage leukoreduction of packed red blood cells followed by the subsequent storage of red blood cells, platelets, and plasma. A recall notice says that using the affected devices may result in a higher than expected level of leukocytes in transfused blood. “Blood products processed with these lots should not be re-filtered and should be labeled as non-leukoreduced,” it says.
