# Hamilton Medical Recalls Ventilators

Hamilton Medical has recalled its Hamilton-C1, C2, C3, and T1 ventilators after receiving reports about software issues that may cause the devices to stop without notice. The ventilator will switch to “Ambient State” if the device is used for more than 91 days without a restart, according to a [recall notice](https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/medical-device-recalls/hamilton-medical-inc-recalls-hamilton-c1-c2-c3-t1-ventilators-software-issues-may-cause-ventilators?utm%5Fmedium=email&utm%5Fsource=govdelivery), which may require a healthcare professional to intervene, provide air supply to the patient with a manual resuscitating device, or use an alternative device. “Serious consequences or death may result for patients who do not breathe on their own or do not receive immediate intervention,” the notice says, adding that there have been 80 reported complaints, no injuries, and no deaths related to the issue.

The ventilators are used for people who require full or partial breathing assistance. Healthcare professionals also use them during patient transport within or outside hospital settings.
