# Hearing on FDA Foreign Inspections

The House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a 2/6 public hearing on “Protecting American Health Security: Oversight of Shortcomings in FDA’s Foreign Inspection Program.” In a [statement](https://energycommerce.house.gov/posts/chairs-rodgers-and-griffith-announce-oversight-hearing-on-fda-s-foreign-inspection-program?ref=fdaweb.com), committee chair Rep. **Cathy Morris Rodgers** (R-WA) and subcommittee chair **Morgan Griffith** (R-VA) say, “FDA’s oversight and enforcement of manufacturing practices have long stood as the gold standard for ensuring Americans can trust the safety and efficacy of prescription drugs and medical devices. However, in recent years, the agency has largely scaled back its foreign manufacturing facility inspection program, raising concerns about whether food, drugs, and medical devices are being made in safe and secure conditions. This hearing, which builds upon our ongoing investigations, will give members a chance to discuss the importance of FDA’s inspection program, why it hasn’t been widely restarted in countries like India and China, and how this trend affects domestic production.”

The names of witnesses are to be released later and are by invitation only, the statement says.
