# HHS Secretary Price Resigns Amid Chartered Aircraft Scandal

HHS secretary **Tom Price** has resigned amid a furor over his use of expensive private chartered aircraft for government travel. President **Donald Trump** plans to designate HHS deputy assistant secretary for health **Don J. Wright** as acting secretary of the department, which oversees FDA.

While Price earlier said his use of the chartered aircraft were approved by legal and HHS officials, he added that he regretted “the concerns this has raised regarding the use of taxpayer dollars.” He also said he was reimbursing the government $52,000 for the cost of his “seat” on the flights, which represents a fraction of the total costs to charter the planes.
