House Passes Drug Continuous Manufacturing Bill

The House has passed bipartisan legislation intended to improve drug quality, reduce drug shortages, and make pharmaceutical production more efficient. The National Centers of Excellence in Advanced and Continuous Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Act, sponsored by Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ), would allow FDA to partner with universities with experience in drug manufacturing technologies to improve drug production.

A statement from Pallone says the bill would designate certain universities as National Centers of Excellence in Advanced and Continuous Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, allowing them to work with FDA and industry to further develop and implement advanced and continuous manufacturing technology. The bill also would authorize $100 million in funding to support the effort.
