Houston Man Sentenced in Counterfeit Drugs Case

Byron A. Marshall of Houston, TX has been sentenced to 300 months in federal prison for his role in leading a counterfeit drug trafficking scheme. According to the indictment, from 4/2014 to 8/2021, Marshall conspired with 10 others including Adam P. Runsdorf, the owner and president of Woodfield Pharmaceutical (Boca Raton, FL), to produce more than 500,000 pints of counterfeit cough syrup. Marshall’s drug trafficking operation then sold the counterfeit drugs across the U.S., according to a Justice Department release.

The cough syrup was sold from $100 to $4,000 per pint, the government contends. “During the conspiracy, Marshall communicated directly with Runsdorf regarding production of the counterfeit cough syrup,” it says. “At Runsdorf’s request, Marshall paid Woodfield Pharmaceutical in cash only, and Woodfield employees mailed the cash directly to Runsdorf in Boca Raton.

The Justice Department says that all 11 defendants charged in the indictment pleaded guilty, and to date eight have been sentenced.
