ICH Coronavirus Coding

The International Council on Harmonization is issuing a notification to users of the Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities (MedDRA) about existing and new terms for coronavirus concepts. The document says the Covid-19 pandemic “has prompted an urgent need for a harmonized standardized approach to coding and reporting the infection as a global health issue.”

The MedDRA Maintenance and Support Services Organization has already added several coronavirus-related items to MedDRA and is in the process of adding more, the ICH says. The terms can be viewed online here, but will not become part of the official MedDRA release until MedDRA version 23.1 comes out 9/2020.
