# IlluminOss Bone Stabilization System Cleared by FDA

FDA has provided *de novo* clearance for IlluminOss Medical’s IlluminOss Bone Stabilization System for treating impending and actual pathological fractures of the humerus, radius and ulna caused by metastatic bone disease. The device uses a thin-walled polyester polyethylene terephthalate balloon that is infused with a liquid monomer and delivered into the intramedullary canal of the bone through a small incision, according to the company. Once infused, it conforms to the shape of the patient’s specific bone, and a surgeon then activates a light source which delivers visible light to the balloon and thus polymerizing the monomer. “The cured, hardened implant provides longitudinal strength and rotational stability over the length of the implant, stabilizing the fracture,” IlluminOss says.
