IlluminOss Photodynamic Fibula Stabilizer Cleared
FDA has cleared an IlluminOss Medical 510(k) for its Photodynamic Bone Stabilization System for treating fibula fractures. IlluminOss says the device is a patient-specific intramedullary implant that has a light-curable liquid monomer, contained within an expandable balloon, to create a patient-conforming, rigid implant within the bone canal. The company says the device was previously cleared by the agency for treating traumatic, fragility, pathological, and impending pathological fractures of the humerus, radius, ulna, clavicle, pelvis, metacarpals, metatarsals, and phalanges. The device can also be used in conjunction with FDA-cleared fracture fixation systems to provide supplemental fixation in all cleared anatomic sites, it adds.
