Insulet Diabetes Manager Correction

FDA says Insulet Corp. announced 10/17 a medical device correction for all Omnipod DASH personal diabetes managers distributed globally. An agency notice says the company had received reports from users about device battery issues, including battery swelling and leakage and, in rare cases, extreme overheating resulting in reports of a fire.

Insulet says its investigation determined that the Omnipod Dash is at risk of malfunction if overcharged beyond the maximum battery voltage, which could potentially lead to serious injury or death. It reports receiving 50 complaints about the issue, with no reports of serious injuries or death.

The notice says the company expects to begin shipping updated Omnipod DASH units to all current customers in the coming months.
