Insulet Recalls Omnipod DASH Insulin Manager

Insulet is recalling (Class 1) its Omnipod DASH Insulin Management System’s Personal Diabetes Manager after receiving reports of battery issues (e.g., swelling, fluid leakage and overheating). A recall notice warns that users could be exposed to battery fluid and extreme heat, and there is a risk for an explosion or fire, which could lead to serious injury or death. To date, Insulet reports 455 complaints involving the issues, including three fires.

The device is used to deliver insulin at set and variable rates to manage diabetes in people who require insulin. It includes two main components — a wearable and tubeless pump which delivers the insulin, called the Pod, and a remote controller.
