Integra LifeSciences Ultrasonic Surgical Device Cleared

FDA has cleared an Integra LifeSciences 510(k) for its Cusa Clarity Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator System for use in neurosurgery for resection of tumors ranging from soft to firm consistencies, which includes removal of primary and secondary malignant and benign brain and spinal tumors. Cusa is an ultrasonically vibrating surgical device which, in combination with irrigation and aspiration, fragments, emulsifies and removes unwanted tissue, the company says. “It allows for selective dissection of target tissue like tumors while preserving vessels, ducts and other delicate structures,” the company says.
