Integra Neurosurgical Kits Recalled Over Corrosion Risk

Integra LifeSciences has recalled certain neurosurgical monitoring kits, citing potential safety risks linked to a needle component used during procedures to monitor brain pressure. The recall affects specific lots of the Codman Microsensor Basic Kit and Cerelink ICP Sensor Basic Kit, devices commonly used to measure intracranial pressure in patients with neurological conditions. According to an agency recall notice, the issue stems from possible corrosion stains found on a 14-gauge Tuohy needle included in the kits.

Potential risks from using the affected needle include inflammation, infection, fever, and toxic response, which could require additional medical intervention beyond standard care, the notice says. Integra has reported one serious injury associated with the issue.

The devices are used in subdural and intraparenchymal intracranial pressure monitoring, critical procedures in neurosurgical and intensive care settings.
