Julie Tierney Joins Leavitt Partners

Former CBER deputy director Julie Tierney, who also served at one time as FDA chief of staff, has joined Leavitt Partners as a principal in the Washington, DC, office. The firm says that with over 25 years of experience in FDA law and policy, Tierney “helps life sciences companies, patient organizations, and others understand and develop regulatory and engagement strategies and advance policy solutions for complex issues related to product development, review, and marketing.”

Tierney was FDA’s detailee to the Senate HELP Committee as a senior health policy advisor, where she negotiated the FDA-related provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act, Leavitt says. When she returned to the agency, she played a key role in implementing the legislation. An attorney, Tierney joined the FDA Office of the Chief Counsel in 2008 as an associate chief counsel for drugs.
