# Jury Orders Gilead to Pay Merck $200 Million Over Hep C Drugs

> A jury has ordered Gilead Sciences to pay Merck $200 million in damages for infringing two Merck patents related to Gilead’s blockbuster Sovaldi and Harvoni hepatitis C drugs. Merck reportedly is also seeking a 10% royalty on Gilead’s sales going forward. That aspect will be argued in a upcoming trial. A Gilead spokeswoman said the company does not believe Merck is entitled to damages, and it will appeal the decision if the judge maintains the jury’s verdict. The case, *Gilead Sciences vs. Merck*, was argued in the northern California federal court (13-cv-4057).
