Kazia Touts Glioblastoma Drug Trial Results

Kazia Therapeutics says a Phase 2/3 trial evaluating its paxalisib versus standard of care for patients with glioblastoma demonstrated the drug’s effectiveness in extending overall survival. A company statement says the trial showed a 3.8-month improvement in overall survival for newly diagnosed unmethylated patients with glioblastoma compared to the current standard of care.

The company says it will request a meeting with FDA to discuss the results and determine if a potential path to accelerated approval is appropriate. Paxalisib has already been granted FDA orphan drug and fast-track designations for glioblastoma in unmethylated MGMT promoter status patients following radiation plus temozolomide (Merck’s Temodar).
