# Key Patient Long Covid Meeting Themes

A 4/25/2023 virtual public meeting sponsored by FDA on “Long Covid” focused on several key themes raised by patients, their caregivers, and other patient representatives. A 3/2024 meeting [report](https://www.fda.gov/media/177092/download?ref=fdaweb.com) says some 3,200 people attended the meeting whose discussion focused on:

- health effects and daily impacts of long Covid;
- patients’ perspectives on current approaches to treating long Covid; and
- patients’ considerations for determining whether to participate in a clinical trial.

FDA says these key themes emerged from the discussion:

- descriptions of a range of symptoms experienced by those with long Covid;
- the profound impact of long Covid on patients’ physical abilities, emotional well-being, social interactions, and financial stability;
- patients’ experiences with a range of medical products and therapies; and
- patients’ interest in participating in clinical trials for long Covid treatments and the barriers to their participation.

FDA says staff “will carefully consider this input during the regulatory review process, including when advising sponsors on their drug development programs and when assessing products under review for marketing approval. The information from these meetings can also help support the assessment of clinical trial questionnaires. The input may also be of value to drug developers and researchers.”
