Keytruda OK’d Before/After Lung Cancer Surgery

FDA has approved Merck’s Keytruda (pembrolizumab) for use with platinum-containing chemotherapy as neoadjuvant treatment and continuing as a single-agent post-surgical adjuvant treatment for resectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Approval was based on data from the KEYNOTE-671 trial in 797 patients with previously untreated and resectable Stage II, IIIA, or IIIB NSCLC, according to an FDA news release. “In the study, the Keytruda regimen demonstrated statistically significant improvements in event-free survival and overall survival, the study’s dual primary endpoints, versus neoadjuvant placebo plus chemotherapy followed by adjuvant placebo alone,” Merck says.
