# LENZ Therapeutics Get OK for Presbyopia Eye Drops

FDA has approved LENZ Therapeutics’ Vizz (aceclidine ophthalmic solution) 1.44% for treating presbyopia, a common age-related condition that causes blurry near vision. The eye drops work by selectively constricting the iris sphincter muscle to create a “pinhole effect,” which improves near vision by increasing depth of focus without altering distance vision, according to the company. Unlike earlier miotic therapies, it says Vizz achieves this effect with minimal stimulation of the ciliary muscle, reducing the risk of myopic shift.

Approval was supported by three Phase 3 clinical trials — CLARITY 1, CLARITY 2, and CLARITY 3\. The first two trials, which studied 466 patients over 42 days of daily use, showed that Vizz improved near vision within 30 minutes and maintained its effect for up to 10 hours, LENZ says, adding that the third trial evaluated long-term safety over six months in 217 patients.

The company says that the most common side effects included mild, temporary eye irritation, dim vision, and headache. No serious treatment-related adverse events were reported, it says.
