Lexicon Pharma Fast Track for Neuropathic Pain

FDA has granted Lexicon Pharmaceuticals a fast track designation for LX9211 and its use in treating diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain. The company says it is currently enrolling patients with this condition in a Phase 2 proof-of-concept study and it is preparing to initiate a second Phase 2 clinical trial in post-herpetic neuralgia.

LX9211 is described as a potent, orally delivered, selective small molecule inhibitor of adapter-associated kinase 1. Preclinical studies involving the drug have demonstrated central nervous system penetration and reduction in pain behavior in models of neuropathic pain without affecting opiate pathways, it says.
