Lilly Plans NDA for Abemaciclib in Breast Cancer

Eli Lilly says it will file an NDA for abemaciclib based on data from a Phase 3 breast cancer study called MONARCH 3 that met its primary endpoint of demonstrating statistically significant improvement in progression-free survival, according to an interim analysis. The study evaluated abemaciclib, a cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK)4 and CDK6 inhibitor, in combination with an aromatase inhibitor (letrozole or anastrozole) compared to treatment with an aromatase inhibitor alone in women with hormone-receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative advanced breast cancer. Detailed results will be presented at a medical meeting in the second half this year.

Another trial called monarcHER is evaluating abemaciclib plus trastuzumab (with or without fulvestrant) in women with certain locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer, according to Lilly. Additionally, it has an ongoing Phase 3 trial evaluating abemaciclib in lung cancer, brain metastases and pancreatic cancer.
