Lilly Sues 4 More Weight-Loss Drug Compounders

Eli Lilly says it has sued four more drug compounders for selling unapproved products containing tirzepatide, the active ingredient in its weight loss and diabetes medicines, including Mounjaro. A company statement says compounders had been permitted to produce copies of obesity drugs when FDA listed them as being in shortage. A federal judge ruled in April that pharmacies cannot produce copies of the Lilly drugs.

The statement says the company has already sued more than 20 medical spas, wellness centers, and compounding pharmacies for selling products claiming to contain tirzepatide. Earlier this month, it says, the company sued two other compounders and said it would send about 50 cease and desist letters asking companies to confirm that they have already stopped mass compounding.
