Lilly Yanks Cancer Drug Lartruvo from Market

Eli Lilly is withdrawing Lartruvo (olaratumab) from the market based on data from a confirmatory trial in which the drug did not improve survival for patients. Results from ANNOUNCE, a Phase 3 study of Lartruvo (olaratumab), in combination with doxorubicin in patients with advanced or metastatic soft tissue sarcoma, did not confirm the therapy’s clinical benefit, which is a requirement for a product to demonstrate post-approval under FDA’s accelerated approval program. Lartruvo, a platelet-derived growth factor receptor-alpha blocking antibody, was granted accelerated approval 10/2016.

Lilly earlier this year said that the study “did not meet the primary endpoints of overall survival in the full study population or in the leiomyosarcoma sub-population; there was no difference in survival between the study arms for either population.” It plans to present the ANNOUNCE data at an upcoming medical conference and will publish the results in a medical journal.

Lilly says it is establishing a program to ensure current patients will have access to Lartruvo with limited interruption after it is withdrawn.
