# Lilly’s Trulicity Gains Cardiovascular Risk Reduction

FDA has approved Eli Lilly’s Trulicity (dulaglutide) for reducing major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in adults with Type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular (CV) disease or multiple CV factors. The company says Trulicity is the only Type 2 diabetes drug approved to reduce the risk of MACE for both primary and secondary prevention populations.

Approval is based on data from REWIND cardiovascular outcomes trial. “Results demonstrated consistent MACE risk reduction with Trulicity across major demographic and disease subgroups,” the company says. In the trial, Trulicity’s safety profile was also consistent with the GLP-1 receptor agonist drug class, it says, adding that the most common adverse events leading to drug discontinuation were gastrointestinal events.
