Medline Recalls Trach Care and Cleaning Trays

FDA says Medline Industries announced 12/20/23 a 10/10/23 recall of several lots of tracheostomy care and cleaning trays that include a tracheostomy brush that may have sharp edges at the tip that can puncture tubing during use and/or cause user injury during handling. An agency announcement says complaints have also described bristles of the tracheostomy brush detaching before and potentially during use.

“If bristles reach a patient’s airway, they may cause unexplained increases in sputum or pulmonary secretions, signs of infection, or difficulty breathing,” the announcement says.
