Medtronic Cryoablation Catheter Expanded Indication Approved

FDA has approved an expanded indication for Medtronic’s Freezor Xtra Cryoablation Catheter — treating patients with atrioventricular nodal re-entrant tachycardia (AVNRT),a life-threatening abnormal heart rhythm. The flexible, single-use device is used to freeze cardiac tissue and block unnecessary electrical signals within the heart.

The expanded indication is supported by data from the Intracardiac CrYoablation for AtrioVentricular Nodal Reentrant Tachycardia (ICY-AVNRT) clinical study, which showed freedom from AVNRT was 92.6% at six months post-procedure, according to the company. All of the safety endpoints were met, it says, with no primary safety events related to the device.
