# Medtronic Gets FDA Green Light for Diabetes Devices

FDA has cleared a Medtronic 510(k) for its MiniMed 780G insulin delivery system to integrate with Abbott’s Instinct continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor for people with Type 1 diabetes. The Instinct device, designed exclusively for Medtronic’s automated insulin delivery systems, is the smallest and thinnest integrated CGM available, with a wear time of up to 15 days, according to the company.

In a separate decision, FDA approved a Medtronic PMA for the MiniMed 780G for people with insulin-requiring Type 2 diabetes, making it the first automated insulin delivery system with meal detection technology available to this population, the company says. Clinical studies cited by Medtronic showed that use of the MiniMed 780G system reduced HbA1c levels and improved “time in range” glucose measurements in people with Type 2 diabetes, while lowering the burden of daily disease management.
