Medtronic Recalling Monitor Battery Pack

Medtronic says it is recalling the battery pack in Covidien Oridion-labeled patient monitors. The company says that the recall is due to a battery manufacturing defect that may increase the risk of thermal damage in the battery pack. The packs were produced by a contract manufacturer between 4/2014 and 2/2016.

Medtronic says it has received seven reports of thermal damage out of 9,817 battery packs impacted by the recall. Of these seven reports, it says, one involved a fire resulting in smoke inhalation and minor burns.

Customers should use the monitors on AC power without the battery pack until a new battery pack is provided, the company says.
