# Medtronic Ventilator Field Correction is Class 1

Medtronic says it initiated a field corrective action for its Puritan Bennett 980 ventilator series 9/19 that FDA has designated as a Class 1 recall. A company [announcement](https://www.marketwatch.com/press-release/medtronic-announces-worldwide-voluntary-field-corrective-action-company-issues-software-update-for-puritan-bennetttm-980-pb980-ventilator-series-2018-12-04?ref=fdaweb.com) says the corrective action is a software update to address customer feedback. It says the software updates the external USB drive performance and its impact on graphical user interface functionality and the labeling displayed on the interface during ventilator use. The update also provides additional product enhancements, the company says.

Customers can continue to use the ventilators before the software update is installed, Medtronic says. It says it has not received any confirmed reports of serious adverse health consequences related to issues the software update addresses.
