Megadyne Recalls MEGA Patient Electrodes

Megadyne is recalling its MEGA 2000 and MEGA SOFT Reusable Patient Return Electrodes after receiving reports of pediatric and adult patients receiving burns. “These burns may be as serious as third-degree burns requiring medical intervention and may lead to a longer hospital stay, scarring, and potentially more surgeries for pediatric and adult patients,” a recall notice says. The company is continuing to evaluate the root cause of the burns. To date, 63 injuries have been reported.

The devices are soft pads used during electrosurgery, in which an electric current is used to heat or cut tissue or stop bleeding. The current is delivered to patient tissue with a small pen-like attachment.
